Abstract Alternative | In Japan, it has been noted that the bonds between young people and senior people have weakened over the years. In the field of community planning, there is a need to attract citizens from a variety of backgrounds. This study examined the extent to which an individual’s attributes, such as age, job, and whether or not he/she has a good relationship with different kinds of generations (e.g., senior or young generations), are connected to his/her “willingness” to participate in community activities. We conducted a nation-wide questionnaire survey in Japan. As a statistical tool, we employed ordered logit techniques to examine the relationship between a citizen’s attributes and their degree of involvement in community activities in Japan.
