Abstract Alternative | Shima Seiki Mfg., Ltd. is a leading manufacturer of computerized flatbed knitting machines and related design systems and has its main office and factory in Wakayama City, Japan. Mr. Masahiro Shima, its current president, started the business. In the textile machine boom during Japan’s high growth period, the company surpassed its competitors with its automation technology and the high quality and performance of its products. Despite the negative impact of the oil shock, it became one of Japan’s top three companies in ten years and one of the world’s top companies in twenty years after starting up through the successful development of mass-produced computerized machines and comprehensive design systems. This article attempts to describe how Shima Seiki’s CSR activities developed and contributed to its various stakeholders in the industry and local community.
