Abstract Alternative
This paper examined changes in the labor force status of the population in Iwade City, Wakayama Prefecture since2000. In Iwade City, where the population has continued to grow as a suburban residential area of such as Wakayama City, although the age structure is younger than that of the whole of Japan, the aging of population has progressed. In addition, the labor force participation rate and the number of workers for both men and women in their 60s has increased, resulting in an aging of workers. Furthermore, as is in the case of the suburbs of large metropolitan areas, the labor force participation rate of women was low, and the proportion of “Did housework” was high.In Iwade City, although the labor force participation rate of women has increased since 2000, the proportion of “Worked besides doing housework” is higher than that of the whole of Japan, suggesting that it is difficult for women living in the suburbs to work.
