A comparison of the Chinese intra-provincial IO tables against the average benchmark IO table reveals not only the trends in domestic regional industrial locations but also the intra- and inter-provincial relationships between different industries. This paper is intended as a continuation of Kanazawa’s study (2010), which discussed the intra- and inter-provincial economic impact of China’s abundant energy resources using China’s provincial IO tables for 2002. This study uses the provincial IO tables for 2012 and updates the findings. Four Chinese provinces (Shanxi, Guizhou, Heilongjiang, and Xinjiang) are used as the main examples. An introductive overview of their 42-sector intra-provincial IO tables, compared with the benchmark IO table, is used to discuss the intra- and interprovincial economic impact of holding abundant energy resources (coal and/or petroleum and natural gas) with extremely high LQ values.
