Abstract Alternative | The UN framework for sustainable development has made progress since the Brundtland Commission in 1987 and is essentially characterized by the supreme objective of "eradicating poverty," which was adopted afresh as the primary goal at the 71st session of the UN General Assembly in 2016. This paper clarifies this process, because in Japan it has often been misunderstood that the primary objective is tackling environmental issues, such as climate change.
