modern tourism in Germany
German nationalism
Rhineland
Modern tourism in Germany developed with a focus on the Rhineland, which was a symbol of German nationalism and indeed had been occupied by the Allied Forces after World War I. This paper surveys this process from the viewpoint of tourism and argues that Rhineland tourism has been encouraged by this kind of nationalism seeking the benefit of the country. The same can be said about the campaign to increase the number of foreign tourists in Japan today.
