Family Trouble and Conciliation of Domestic Relations: Principles and Present State of Conciliation of Domestic Relations

Family trouble, which is handled by family courts in Japan, has increased recently. A person who intends to file an action on a case where a conciliation may be possible pursuant to the provision of Article 244 must first file a petition for conciliation of domestic relations with a family court. The author was a domestic relations conciliation commissioner from 2002 through 2016. This paper analyzes the principles and present state of conciliation of domestic relations.
