Development of Clause-chaining Constructions
Historical Syntax
The aim of this paper is to outline the developmental stages of clause chains found in complex sentences in Kolyma Yukaghir from the perspective of historical syntax, and to consider the factors that are thought to have played a role in their development. Clause chains, or clause-chaining constructions, make up a significant portion of the language's complex sentences. When we examine text materials collected at various points in time, we find that the occurrence of this construction differs depending on the period. If considered from a diachronic perspective, this can be seen as a historical change, or in one word, development. It is an interesting hypothesis to assume that several factors were at play in this development, and this paper will undertake a consideration of these factors.
