In the Japanese board game “sugoroku”, players navigate a game piece from the start to the finish by rolling dice. Travel sugoroku, which has developed since the Edo period, has created a tourist gaze as a source of content for game tourism. A typical example of travel sugoroku is Tokaido-sugoroku, which was made in the Edo period. Travel sugoroku has continued to develop under the influence of the times. In this research, the authors analyzed the characteristics of travel sugoroku based on its evolution. It was found that travel sugoroku in Japan is characterized by a rich amount of information about tourist spots. Moreover, we proposed virtual sugoroku as a virtual tourism tool using HMD.
