This paper aims to identify the strategic role of foreign plants in the evolution of global production networks and the process of internationalization in emerging market multinationals. In contrast to the way in which multinational corporations in developed countries have proceeded with internationalization, these emerging market multinationals have taken a different approach. The roles of foreign plants have changed during the process of evolution. There is a possibility that foreign plants have contributed to company growth by accumulating capital and securing excellent partners to create successful strategic alliances.
