This paper examines the Qing dynasty’s view of the history of the Eight-Legged Essay in the Ming dynasty. The findings show that the history of the Eight-Legged Essay in the Ming dynasty as expressed in the Qing dynasty was one in which the central focus was whether the content was useful for the interpretation of the Four Books.
