Impact of Sexuality Education in a Special School for Students with Intellectual Disabilities : Findings from an Interview Survey with Graduates

Abstract Alternative
This study examines the outcomes of sexuality education practices in a special school for students with intellectual disabilities. We analyzed the content of sexuality education programs at special school A and conducted an interview survey with its graduates. The results of the survey indicate that considering the students’ development and individual circumstances, and with the consent of their parents, sexuality education encompassing sexual intercourse did not pose any issues for the students and graduates.Rather, the results suggest that the sexuality education provided at school A resulted in increased awareness of sexual health among graduates, fostering a sense of sexual self-determination through accurate knowledge about
sexuality.
