This paper engages with the problems in the historic development of tourism from the Grand Tour to such modern, so to speak, late-capitalistic, tourism, that is characterized mainly by mechanical steam engine carriage. The Grand Tour was a precede period of modern tourism without mechanical engines, which is however neglected in representative literature on the European history in Japan in order to be corrected.
