The purpose of this study is to review the results of the awareness survey, regarding online English classes and traditional face-to-face classes conducted in the first semester of the 2021 academic year at Wakayama University. The paper also shows the comparison of the results of the term-end exams of 2021 and 2019, which was conducted face-to-face. The survey revealed that more than half of the students wanted to have a combination of online and face-to-face classes, whereas about thirty percent of students wanted all face-to-face lessons. The comparison of exams shows the combined classes in 2021 had higher scores than the face-to-face classes in 2019. Advantages and disadvantages of online classes as well as face-to-face classes are also presented. Some suggestions for more efficient English education in general are added for the future development of English teaching systems at universities.
